While there are many Christian radio stations in the United States (at least 1600), there are only about 83 Catholic radio stations in the entire country.  None can be heard on the AM or FM bands in Southern Minnesota.  Why do we need a Catholic radio station?  Aren't the Christian radio stations enough?

We NEED Catholic radio stations to evangelize and defend the Catholic faith.  It is important in developing and maintaining the Catholic faith in Southern Minnesota, and in explaining it to our fellow Christians.  A Catholic radio station would bring great joy to those who are homebound, by broadcasting the Mass and/or the Rosary.  A Catholic radio station would provide comfort to all Christians in these troubled times by reinforcing that we are all God's children.

Also, the laity are called upon by both our Pope and our Bishop to evangelize the Catholic faith.  Here are excerpts assembled by the Catholic Radio Association, of which our group is a member:

On all Christians rests the noble obligation of working to bring all men throughout the world to hear and accept the divine message of salvation”

Decree on the Apostolate of the Laity

                      Vatican Council II

“the latest media of social communication are indispensable means for evangelization, and for enlightening the minds and hearts of men…effective support should be given to good radio and television programs, above all those that are suitable for families. Catholic programs should be promoted, in which listeners and viewers can be brought to share in the life of the Church and learn religious truths. An effort should also be made to set up Catholic stations”

Decree on the Means of Social Communication
                      Vatican Council II

In more recent years, Pope John Paul II has on numerous occasions called for the use of modern means of communication to spread the Gospel message.

“Radio offers perhaps the closest equivalent today to what Jesus was able to do with large groups through his preaching.  Radio is an intimate medium ...[and] may well be the most effective means of reaching large numbers of people.”

"Radio may well be the most cost effective means of reaching large numbers of people who may not want to read or may lack exposure to Catholic publications - but will be willing to 'eavesdrop' on Catholic stations or programming"

“the new evangelization calls for a clearly conceived, serious and organized  effort to evangelize culture”
