PRAISE GOD!!!!! On June 28th, 2010 we received the final approval for our construction for two (count 'em, 2) Catholic Radio Stations in Southern Minnesota, serving the Owatonna and Mankato markets. We are still working on the eastern portion of our Diocese, but we have to start somewhere - and this is a GREAT way to start. We will be on 88.7 FM in St. Peter and 88.9 FM in Owatonna. We have just begun the planning process, so cannot yet say when we will be on the air. We will do our best to get on the air as soon as possible. We are Southern Minnesota Catholic Radio, a faith based Catholic lay apostolate utilizing radio to follow Jesus' call to evangelize. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We reside in Southern Minnesota, within the Diocese of Winona, which stretches from South Dakota to Wisconsin along the southern edge of Minnesota.
Our MissionSouthern Minnesota Catholic Radio was blessed by Bishop Bernard Harrington to express the gospel of Jesus Christ to all people in his Diocese. Southern Minnesota Catholic Radio will re-energize Catholics with a deeper understanding of the authentic teachings of the Catholic Church and help further Christian unity by dispelling misconceptions of the Church held by other Christian denominations. We share the beauty of the Catholic faith and practice so that all who hear it may be brought into the Kingdom of God.
What is Catholic Radio?Well, you may have heard of Christian radio; Catholic radio is similar, but dedicated to following the teachings of the Catholic Church. Our group is working hard to bringing Catholic radio programming to the people of Southern Minnesota. This Catholic radio programming will have something for everyone, young or old! While Catholic radio programming can be heard north of us in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis & St. Paul, the radio signals don't reach us here in Southern Minnesota. Catholic radio programming can also be heard via shortwave radio or satellite radio (Sirius), but this requires the purchase of additional receiving equipment and/or a monthly subscription fee. The most convenient way to listen to Catholic radio for most people would be for them to able to hear it on their AM/FM receivers. That is our goal: to start an AM or FM Catholic radio station in Southern Minnesota!! Want to learn more? Then, as you might imagine, starting or purchasing a radio station can be expensive. While we don't think the cost is prohibitive, we could use donations, large & small.
